Key facts

How we work with Australian businesses

SolidKern is a French IT service provider based in Villiers-le-Bel, north of Paris. We have no office, address, ABN or representative in Australia, and we say so up front: everything we do for an Australian business starts remotely, through secure remote sessions, shared documents and video calls. When a project genuinely needs someone on site, for example a server room inventory or a hands-on workshop, a visit to Australia can be added to the quote, with travel costs stated in advance. Given the distance, that is the exception rather than the rule.

Our entire catalogue is available to Australian clients: audits, migrations, virtualisation, virtual desktops, Microsoft 365 and Intune, awareness training and IT project management. Each service is a project with a defined scope, deliverables and a price agreed before work starts. We work only with businesses.

What we do not offer, in Australia or anywhere else outside France, is ongoing engagement: day-to-day administration or monitoring of your systems, on-call duty, or a guaranteed recovery time after an incident. These call for someone who can be at your premises within hours. A local managed service provider will serve you better for that, and we are happy to work alongside yours.

Working across the time difference

The east coast is 8 to 10 hours ahead of Paris depending on the season, Brisbane 8 to 9 hours and Perth 6 to 7 hours. We adapt to your schedule: calls and workshops are set at times that suit your team, agreed in advance.

The gap also has a real benefit for infrastructure work. Changes to production, such as a server role cut-over, a virtual machine migration or a Windows 11 deployment wave, can run while your staff are away, without anyone working overtime. The rollback plan is written and agreed beforehand, and you find the report in your inbox the next morning.

For day-to-day exchanges, email works well: a reply is often waiting when you start work.

Language, quotes and invoicing

We work with you in English: calls, reports, documentation and quotes.

Prices are set and invoiced in euros, which keeps the amount on the quote and the amount on the invoice identical; your bank converts to Australian dollars at its own rate. VAT not applicable (article 293 B of the French General Tax Code). The tax arrangements specific to Australia and to your business are set out on the quote, before any commitment. Unless agreed otherwise, 30% is due on order and the balance by the milestones set in the quote, by bank transfer.

Starting prices for every service are on our pricing page, and the free 30-minute discovery call is booked from the contact page.

The Australian legal context of your IT projects

We are not lawyers and do not give legal advice. What we do is implement the technical side: access control, logging, backups, patching, encryption and incident procedures. Knowing the rules that frame your project helps us scope it correctly.

Privacy Act 1988 and the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme

The Privacy Act 1988 and its 13 Australian Privacy Principles apply to Australian Government agencies, to organisations with an annual turnover of more than 3 million dollars, and to some smaller organisations. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) enforces it. Under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, an organisation covered by the Act must notify the people affected and the OAIC when a data breach is likely to result in serious harm.

Ransomware payment reporting

The Cyber Security Act 2024 requires businesses above a turnover threshold set by the Cyber Security Rules to report a ransomware or cyber extortion payment within 72 hours. The best way to never face that decision is tested, protected backups, which is one of the Essential Eight.

The Essential Eight

The Australian Signals Directorate's Essential Eight is mandatory at Maturity Level Two for applicable Australian Government organisations under the Protective Security Policy Framework. It is not mandatory for private businesses, but it gives a clear, public yardstick for the basics of Windows security. We explain what it asks of a Windows and Microsoft 365 environment on our page on the Essential Eight.

Where we are most useful remotely

The services below lend themselves particularly well to remote delivery for an Australian business:

  • Active Directory audit: a read-only review of your directory, privileged accounts and delegations, the groundwork for restricting administrative privileges.

  • Windows 11 migration: Windows 10 is out of support, and the Essential Eight requires unsupported operating systems to be removed at every maturity level.

  • Microsoft 365 and Intune: device compliance, conditional access and update policies configured wherever your devices are.

  • IT audit: workstations, backups, Microsoft 365, accounts and licences, with a prioritised roadmap.

  • Virtualisation migration: moving away from VMware to Proxmox or Hyper-V, with cut-overs during your night.

All our services and their starting prices are listed on the services page.

Frequently asked questions

Can you work on our systems from France?

Yes. Audits, migrations, Microsoft 365 and Intune, virtualisation and awareness training are delivered through secure remote sessions and video calls. A visit to Australia can be added to the quote when a project genuinely needs it.

When can we talk, given the time difference?

At a time that suits you, agreed in advance: we adapt to your schedule, on the east coast as in Perth. Everything else runs by email, with replies often waiting for you in the morning.

Can you administer our IT on a day-to-day basis?

No. We do not take on ongoing administration or monitoring, on-call duty or guaranteed recovery times outside France. Each service is a project with a defined scope, and we can work alongside your local provider.

Can you certify us at an Essential Eight maturity level?

No. We implement and document the controls, and we show you where you stand against the maturity model, but we do not certify or guarantee a maturity level. A formal assessment is a separate exercise.
