Centralised desktops on Proxmox
Your workstations are centralised in your data centre on Proxmox, the open-source hypervisor, to give every site of the organisation the same working environment. It suits a new deployment on a controlled budget, with no per-seat licence cost. Already on Citrix? See the note in the next section.
Who is it for?
Multi-site organisations that want a uniform working environment.
Organisations that prefer to centralise data rather than scatter it across devices.
Organisations that want to rationalise PC renewal according to actual use.
Already on Citrix? This service covers new deployments on Proxmox; to optimise or migrate an existing Citrix environment, see Citrix audit and optimisation.
What the base price includes
Design of a VDI architecture matched to your usage.
Deployment of persistent or non-persistent virtual desktops.
Configuration of roaming profiles and folder redirection.
Integration with your Active Directory and business tools.
The starting price shown above covers a pilot deployment on Proxmox of up to 10 desktops. The total cost then depends on the resources allocated (RAM, CPU, storage) and the number of users targeted, and is set on quote after analysing your usage.
Access from outside? This service deploys virtual desktops for use on your sites or through your existing VPN. Proxmox is not designed to be exposed directly to the internet: if you have no VPN and want secure external access without deploying one, the Parallels RAS deployment service and its Secure Gateway with MFA option meet that need.
How it works
Analysis: usage, business applications and network constraints.
Architecture: sizing of the VDI infrastructure.
Deployment: installation, master image and profile configuration.
Tests: validation with a pilot group of users.
Roll-out (if agreed): deployment to the agreed scope after the pilot is validated, and training.
The work is carried out remotely, on the servers you provide. Pilot tests with your users are scheduled in your local working hours; an on-site visit is possible on quote.
Deliverables
A working VDI infrastructure within the pilot scope or the agreed scope.
A master image configured with the applications in scope.
Roaming profiles and folder redirection in place.
Documentation and user training.
14 days of post-delivery support for questions and minor adjustments related to the pilot or the delivered VDI scope.

Frequently asked questions
Why is this service on Proxmox rather than Parallels RAS? This service targets virtual desktops on Proxmox, the open-source hypervisor, with no per-seat licence cost: it is the most economical way to standardise desktops across sites for internal use or through your VPN. If you want to publish applications and desktops with simpler commercial administration, or need secure external access without a VPN, see our Parallels RAS deployment service. We do not offer new Citrix deployments: their complexity reserves them for large organisations, better served by a specialist systems integrator.
Does VDI work with a basic internet connection? It depends on a stable connection, acceptable latency, the chosen sizing and your usage. Standard office use generally works well with modern protocols. Graphics-heavy, audio or video use and heavy applications need specific validation.
How much does VDI cost per user? The base price covers a pilot deployment on Proxmox of up to 10 desktops. The total cost then depends on the resources allocated (RAM, CPU, storage) and the number of users targeted; it is set on quote after analysing your usage.
What does the 14-day post-delivery support cover? Questions and minor adjustments related to the pilot or the delivered VDI scope. It does not cover user helpdesk, continuous monitoring, day-to-day administration, any performance or availability guarantee, support for personal devices outside the agreed scope, or fixing business applications that were not planned.
